"Win as if you're used to it, and
lose as if you liked it." - in the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum

Eleanor Roosevelt wrote:

Anger is only one letter short of danger.

If someone betrays you once, it is his fault;
 If he betrays you twice, it is your fault.

Many people will walk in and out of your life,
 But only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.

To handle yourself, use your head;
 To handle others, use your heart.

Great minds discuss ideas;
 Average minds discuss events;
  Small minds discuss people.

He who loses money, loses much;
 He who loses a friend, loses much more;
  He who loses faith, loses all.

Beautiful young people are accidents of nature,
 But beautiful old people are works of art.

Learn from the mistakes of others.
 You can't live long enough to make them all yourself.

Friends, you and me....
 You brought another friend....
  And then there were 3....
 We started our group....
  Our circle of friends....
   And like that circle....
    There is no beginning or end....

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is mystery. Today is a gift.

What's kept me going back first and foremost is that I'm a mountaineer; I love being in the mountains. I find it a very rewarding and enriching experience. Sometimes there's great hardship and great risk, but in the end it's not about death, it's about life. You go to climb mountains to feel more alive, not less alive." - David Breashears, codirector of the IMAX Everest film, '96; 1st American to summit twice, '85

"death is always on the way, but the fact that you don't know when it will
arrive seems to take away from the finiteness of life. it is that terrible
precision that we hate so much. but because we don't know, we get to
think of life as an inexhaustible well. yet everything happens only a certain
number of times, and a very small number really. how many more times will
you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon thats
so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life
without it? perhaps 4 or 5 times more. perhaps not even. how many more times
will you see the full moon rise? perhaps 20. and yet it all seems limitless.

Promise Yourself

Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb
your peace of mind. To make all your friends feel that
there is something is them. To look at the sunny side of
everything and make your optimism come true. To think only
the best, to work only for the best and expect only the
best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of
others as you are about your own. To give so much time to
improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize
others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger,
too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of
trouble.

*Think big thoughts, but relish small pleasures
*Strive for excellence not perfection
*Commit yourself to constant self improvement
*Improve your performance by improving your attitude
*Don't forget, a peron's greatest emotional need is to fee
ppreciated
*See problems as opportunities for growth and self mastery
*Learn to live your life as an exclamation not an
        explanation (No excuses!)
*Remember, no one makes it alone.

SO IT IS WITH LIFE

How many people besides athletes have the courage to display their
weaknesses as well as their strengths before thousands of people? Nowhere
else but in the sports world does one dare to lose so often, hope to win
so much, try over and over so many times for perfection, or give so much
so often. The athlete knows the price of excellence, the worth of pain,
the desirablilty of joy and the self's ability to achieve. To learn to
compete well is to learn to live well, for not only is competition a way
of life - it is life. Only those who dare to accept the bad with the
good, the work with the fun, the sorrow with the happiness, and the
defeats with the victories, will ever achieve or accomplish much in the
sports world. So it is with life.
