Is there any one at mitoc who surfs?
Me and my firend Dan Sura (freshman) surf here in NE. From Maine to RI.
We surf in the winter too.
If you happen to be a surfer stranded here, you are not alone. There
is hope!
Gimme a call. We might be going this weekend to Cape Cod. You will
need a 5mm suit with hood, gloves and boots.
Just out of curiosity, Professor Kevin Otto, from mechanical eng.
also surfs year round and is the chairman of the NE chapter of the surfrider
foundation.

        Bernardo.

p.s. In the winter, swells vary from chest, to head high, to overhead, and
to even double overhead in Cape Cod and the Islands. Water temp rages from
35F in NH to 45 in RI.

p.s.2 For a very interesting article about surfing in NE, check
http://www.surfrider.org/makingwaves9/surf_spotlight1.htm

or my web page.

Sure, you can borrow it. Are you still coming to circus?

The following link gives the fall drawdown schedule for lakes and ponds in
New Hampshire. Remember, levels are from normal summer pool levels, not this
summer's levels, so some drawdowns may be short or even non-existant...

This is not a good sign. Sara says she's tried a few weeks ago
to get off one of our lists. Is anyone taking care of mitoc-requests?

> A friend of mine is organizing an event next summer, and she's looking
> for campsites near Boston. She'd like something less rustic than many

I never thought my work as a Unitarian-Universalist conference organizer
would help MITOC in any way. I was delightfully wrong.

My advice is to get in touch with the Boy Scout Council. The Scouts' Camp
Sayre borders Great Blue Hill (Milton, MA, where route 93 and 95 cross),
and there's a great site near Plymouth, MA (the name escapes me). I'm not
sure what you mean by "real" bathrooms. They have flush toilets, but the
scouts don't have much in the way of showers. The cabins are dorms with
bunks, but there's plenty of space for tents, and good cooking facilities
- not to mention *excellent* bonfire pits. Their main advantage is that
they're CHEAP and can easily accomodate 50+ people, and are near plenty of
hiking trails.

The Massachusetts Council of Churches - (617) 523-2771 - puts out a book
of "retreat sites" for $10. You don't have to be church-affiliated to
reserve most of the camps in the book. They vary from $5 a night lean-tos
to $50 a night for retreat centers with hot tubs and catered macrobiotic
food. Heck, for $75 a night y'all could drive out to Kripalu
Yoga Center and become enlightened. Such a deal!

I found the old email. The address she gave had an extra 's' on the front,
so it wasn't in the database to remove. Since Mike and I are both handling
the lists, I think we've been assuming that the other person took the
address off if it doesn't show up, so rare cases like this slip through. I
guess we should start cc-ing each other (Mike, I assume you took the new
address off, since it isn't there) I'll let her know that she's off now.

The issue is more than ten parts get lost and tents get packed with
the wrong parts. I have lead a MITOC where we, the fearless leaders,
took a MITOC tent, and were not able to set it up because it had
been packed with the wrong poles.

Given that Rumney is projected to be pretty crowded on Saturday, a
couple of us are going to Crow Hill instead.

We'll be there by 8:30 am. We have enough ropes.

I have a Crow Hill climbing permit and can add you to it for the day
if you don't have one yourself. You can get your own at the ranger station
up the road.

We live west of Boston, so can't give rides but can help coordinate
with anybody interested.

Raichle Montagne mountaineering boots, size 9.

Full grain leather boots with Norwegian welt and full length shank. I've
had the boots for about 10 years but they are still in excellent condition.
I haven't used them for about 5 years and even before that they were
primarly used with supergaitors. A very rugged boot ideal for
mountaineering. Not a day hiker!

Asking $100 or best reasonable offer.

Hi, I'm Abe Schneider, I like to climb, and
am capable of climbing up to 5.10+'s and some 5.11's

I was wondering if there are any good spots for sport or bouldering
even toproping, near Boston. (Less than an hour's drive)

I know of Quincy and Hammond Pond, but I am wondering if there are more spots.
I've heard something about Rattlesnake rocks...is that any good?

Thanks,

abe

Rattlesnake rocks was pretty fun - we climbed a pretty tweaky 10 there
called Penal Servitude. If you're into the 10-11s range, you'll probably
enjoy it. Rick pointed out a few other pretty fun looking routes there in
the 9-11 range. They're all pretty short (40' max, I think) but nice.
All toproped.

College rocks is also about 40 minutes away, and was lots of fun. Some
thin face and overhanging granite routes. All toproped.

-Dave, who hasn't climbed much more around here. :)
