Would love to know what kind of surgery you had 36 years ago. I had bone
fusions 55 years ago and am interested in finding someone, even a doctor,
knowledgeable about that early surgery and why it was discontinued, at least
in US. Betty in AL

That is not what I meant... I meant that at this point the brace might not
be enough, and surgery may be inevitable. The highest rate of curve
progression occurs during the time immediatly before and during the first
year of menses. Therefore, if she is already at 40 degrees, she is likely
to progress further. So YES brace her now, and watch for progression, but
don't be surprised when it happens with or without the brace.

Betty,

I spoke with my Aunt Mary the other day to ask her about her surgery.
She had Dr. Schaum and Dr. Smith of Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee do
her surgery. She is 70 or so and had surger when she was a teenager.
I could ask her what she knows.

Maybe that type of surgery evolved to what we have now.

Thanks for clarifying Dr. Dean, it was unclear. It also helps (for me) to hear
a chiro say that sometimes surgery can not be avoided, too many don't agree
and it is the patients that suffer, you have always been open and honest with
our group, and I for one respect you for it. I have met too many of the
"other" kind, who think they are God's gift and can cure anything. (NOT

I would like to talk to anyone out there who has developed arachnoiditis
post spinal fusion surgery. I seem to have most of the symptoms I can find
on the net. Anyone with this problem please let me know your symptoms, how
it was diagnosed, and by what kind of doctor. I am recovering from my
second spinal fusion from C-4 to T-10. I wasn't able to keep up with all
the E-mail I received post-surgery, so I left the list for a while. My
doctor tells me that I will probably be in pain the rest of my life due to
complications, but I cannot get him to clearify what the complications are.
Desperate for info,
Craig
Thanks!

Craig-

Be firm and insist the doctor tell you the complications that occurred.
It's your body and your pain--no doctor should be holding out.
Did these complications occur during surgery? while you were in the
hospital? Then perhaps you might want to get hold of your medical
records. The records are quite extensive but the medical records
department can help you. You might want to start with the op report.

Good luck.

Jenn,
My name is Stephanie. I am 14 y.o. too. I live in Pittsburgh PA, and just
had surgery on Feb. 4. I must say that the idea of having surgery isn't fun
at all and I won't lie to u and tell you it was a blast. On the morning of
my surgery, I was terrified, but everyone was very nice to me. Everyone
told me that I would be ok and i would be so glad i had the surgery when
everything is over with. Now that i am 11 days post op, i am doing great,
still sore though. i can't bend at the waist yet and probably won't be
able 2 4 a couple more months. If you just want to talk to me about the
surgery i would be willing to do that.
Hope this helps
Stephanie :)

P.S. i had 2 donate blood 2. i didn't like it either
