Hey Everyone,
For those of who have always wanted to learn Chinese but Chinese I wasn't
being offered this term, your prayers have been answered.
Normally Chinese I is offered only in the fall semester, but this spring
Prof. Julian Wheatley is quite willing to teach a beginning Chinese language
course this semester. This class would focus on spoken Chinese. The class is
great and Prof. Wheatley is excellent. As I have been in his class for one
term and have him again this spring, I throughly recommend this class to
everyone!
It is 6 units of P/D/F and will not cover the full syllabus of Mandarin I. There will be less emphasis on the
character portion (characters will be covered primarily for recognition,
not writing ability). Also, the class number is 21F.911, which is not
explicitly Chinese- so if you need chinese credit, this won't work for you.
Unless there is enough interest to push the matter, this will not be HASS
credit either (since HASS requires 9 units). However, it is an excellent
opportunity to provide yourself with a base in Mandarin.

If you are interested in taking this class this semester, please contact
Julian Wheatley ASAP at wheatley@mit.edu. He needs to know by Wednesday.
He is looking for 10 students to enroll.
