
Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 01/4/1999


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by elliot.

Chairman's Report:

	elliot: I won't be here the next 3 meetings, cat will chair.

Office Report:

	nygren: Snork is running a new version of linux-athena, please try it.
		If you have problems with it send mail to linux-dev.

	sly (for xela):  People should add stuff we need for supplies
		to /mit/xela/sipb/office-supplies.txt (under rcs control).
		The catalog is in the top left drawer of the desk under 
		steve-dallas.

Office Cleaning Report:

	klmitch: A couple of weeks ago I asked to have office vacuumed, 
		by 2 the next day it wasn't done, noticed the board says it 
		was last vacuumed on 12/17. We should make sure office gets
		vacuumed.  

	elliot: I saw a zephyr saying office/building was closed on friday
		It is possible vacuuming was done while the office was closed.

	klmitch: Guessing from the state of floor it wasn't done.  
		Suggest office cleaning after meeting.

MIT Computing Report:

	kcr: AFS prdb update happened.  This means that the deactivation
		is moving forward.

	zacheiss: The deactivation is scheduled a week from tomorrow.

	kcr: It's not going to happen on schedule

	jhawk: In the past have such resyncs been announced?

	kcr: No, as far as I know they've just been done.

Computer Services:

	zacheiss: Last tuesday kcr and zacheiss updated database server on 
		sipb cell to afs 3.4a in prep for rosebud becoming a sun.

	ocschwar: There's open source voice recognition software, 
		voice.netpedia.net, I'm learning C++ in order to help out
		 and help bring it to Athena.

SIPB Backup Report:

	klmitch: haven't seen recent complaints from penguin-lust or charon,
		so I'm assuming the backups were done, no information about 
		others or afs.

Publications Report:

	mhpower: New publication announced by email to sipb-all, 
		Inessential Security by gamache, /mit/gamache/Public/isecurity

	seph: We appear to have everything.

Orientation Report:

IAP Report:

	klmitch: It's IAP

	sly (for xela): We now have 18 subjects --- amehta sent me mail 
		offering to teach LaTeX.  He and I are working on scheduling.

	jhawk: gamache's security class was today did anyone go?
	seph: It was from 6-9, going on now

CokeComm Report:

	elliot: we have coke, we have some candy

	seph: candy is getting low

Other:

	aidan: Clue dump on tcl/tk after meeting next monday.
	elliot: Is that in preparation for your class?
	aidan: Yes, people who know tcl/tk and want to come and
		give suggestions should.

Other Other:

	elliot: During next week's meeting I'll be somewhere over the Pacific.

	justom: The MIT Assassin's guild is putting on Nexus, for info talk to
		foley, apps will be out again soon.
	seph: Nexus conflicts with the LSC Sci-Fi marathon and mystery hunt.

	jjnichol: Coke in Japan is sugar coke, it tastes much better.

	ansbergc: Showing the movie "Christine" tomorrow night in e51 at 7pm.

	golem: There's a rock there instead of Sam.
	rjbarbal: The rock makes a better top than a yo-yo.
