Please, forget the 30 miler for a week, 'k?
I was planning on climbing one day, and hiking the next. My guess is
Hectorcan do the same - than again, since he is the climbing chair and
needs to have time with small groups of wom...errr...students, maybe we
will absolve him of the hardships of hiking. Rick is also going to be
helping out for a day with the climbing. So how about Rick and Hector on
one day, and Hector and myself on the other. There are at least three
other competent climbers that I know of going (more according to the list),
so we should have enough. If anyone feels like they are being shorted of
climbing, let me know, we can do Cathedral or more Rumney on Monday.

As for organization, there are the usual problems with people not reading
e-mail or instructions. I am dealing with it. There will be at least half
a dozen people coming in Thursday to pay and rent gear... I'd be more
effective, but I have a long week in lab and classes as well.

Dear mholling@mit.edu,

Early-Autumn Greetings from atop Northern Mountain,

What a beautiful and busy summer season we have just concluded. Our thanks
again for your support and continued patronage. Fall weather patterns have
begun to settle-in here on the pacific northcoast of California. Thus, it
is time to begin planning for cooler, and soon-to-be much colder, outdoor
activities. However, before the final wraps are placed upon the Summer of
1999 there are quite a few products we have decided to mark down and move
out (some at drastically reduced prices). Are you in the market for a new
backpack? How about a Sierra Designs tent, a waterproof breathable jacket
or some climbing gear? With markdowns of up to 42% - these items are priced
for quick sale while supplies last.

At Northern Mountain Supply we take great pride in the fact that you will
not find a wider selection, faster service or better prices - anywhere on
the web. As always, you are encouraged to scroll down the page and click
through these online deals now through Monday - October 18th. Just remember
that everything is limited to stock on hand, so do not wait too long to
start your autumnal e-shopping activities. Remember to stay safe, play safe
and above all else have an enjoyable time with your friends and family in
the great outdoors.

Given that Rumney is projected to be pretty crowded on Saturday, a
couple of us are going to Crow Hill instead.

We'll be there by 8:30 am. We have enough ropes.

I have a Crow Hill climbing permit and can add you to it for the day
if you don't have one yourself. You can get your own at the ranger station
up the road.

We live west of Boston, so can't give rides but can help coordinate
with anybody interested.

Hi, I'm Abe Schneider, I like to climb, and
am capable of climbing up to 5.10+'s and some 5.11's

I was wondering if there are any good spots for sport or bouldering
even toproping, near Boston. (Less than an hour's drive)

I know of Quincy and Hammond Pond, but I am wondering if there are more spots.
I've heard something about Rattlesnake rocks...is that any good?

Thanks,

abe

Rattlesnake rocks was pretty fun - we climbed a pretty tweaky 10 there
called Penal Servitude. If you're into the 10-11s range, you'll probably
enjoy it. Rick pointed out a few other pretty fun looking routes there in
the 9-11 range. They're all pretty short (40' max, I think) but nice.
All toproped.

College rocks is also about 40 minutes away, and was lots of fun. Some
thin face and overhanging granite routes. All toproped.

-Dave, who hasn't climbed much more around here. :)
