A week ago I went for a ride
from Sonora, in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, over Sonora
and Monitor Passes to Markleeville and then back to Sonora via Ebbetts
Pass. Here is a fuller
description, written by Jobst Brandt.
Here are some pictures. Click on any of them for a larger, more detailed,
but still-inadequate image.
Here are my companions Jobst,
John and
Brian looking down into
Donnell Lake, with the Dardanelles behind them.
This is me, looking relaxed and fit and not at all tired at the turn
just below the "Golden Stairs" section of the climb near the top of
Sonora Pass.
Here's a view of the road descending fast down from Sonora Pass.
There's a breath-taking view of Leavitt Meadow and the meandering
Walker River on the eastern side of Sonora Pass.
I have other pictures, but none can do justice to the beauty of the
area.
