I discovered the poetry of Pablo Neruda in the excellent movie
"Il Postino" ("The Postman"). The movie was not about the poet
himself, but rather about an extraordinary encounter of an ordinary
islander, Mario, with his greatest idol. When Mario cited the poetry
of Neruda, I was just so deeply moved --- Neruda paints the most
powerful images with the most simple words! Since then I have been
reading his work and here are some of my favorites.
