Bacardi and Gamblin Series
22-25 March 1995
Royal Nassau Sailing Club
Nassau, Bahamas
Royal Nassau Sailing Club (RNSC) hosted these two events on the
beautiful waters of Montague Bay in Nassau, Bahamas. The weather was
superb. The three race Bacardi series started out in a 10-15 kt
shifty Southerly. Robert Dunkley and Lori Roberts led after the first
day with a 1-3 followed closely by Hal Gilreath and Allan Carscaddon
with a 2-2. The next day saw the wind swing around to the West and
Gilreath/Carscaddon winning easily to win the series. The fleet
retired to the pool, rested and then set forth that afternoon for the
Gamblin series.
Jerry Thompson and Dee Schilling won a close one in 12-15 kts over
Birger Jansen and Karine Jullisen. The second day of the Gamblin
provided the best winds of 18-20kts with good oscillations. Jimmy
Lowe won the first race as he crossed the line overlapped with Jansen
and Gilreath. The second race was just as close except that Robert
Dunkley stuck his bow in at the finish for third and Birger was able
to squeak out a win. Each day of sailing was followed by an
outstanding social agenda of the Bacardi Party, the Commodore's party
and RNSC dart night. The final day of sailing was a light
Northeasterly. Dunkley and Roberts got a poor start sailed deep into
the left corner and came out miles ahead. Jansen Gilreath and
Thompson followed in that order. The last race of the series was once
again won by Dunkley and Roberts followed by Gilreath and Carscaddon.
That evening the awards party was given at RNSC along with an
outstanding Bahamian dinner, Fire Dancers, and a DJ. The party broke
up around two and some went off to Club Waterloo. It was a grand
celebration as Jimmy Lowe's and Lori Roberts' engagement was toasted,
the Gilreath's celebrated their first anniversary and Id and Anne
Crook celebrated their 41st!
